Bowers & Wilkins audio system for the all-new Volvo S90
January 21, 2016

Following the success of 2015’s XC90 collaboration, Volvo has once again partnered with Bowers & Wilkins to provide the in-car audio for the new S90 premium Sedan.

The car was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show this week and Bowers & Wilkins had exceptional presence. The idea was to display the Bowers & Wilkins system as it is placed and integrated in the car, but without the actual car as a shell. You can see photographs from the exhibition here.
The Volvo S90 features a total of 19 speakers driven by a highly efficient Class D amplifier for a total of 1,400 Watts power. Each speaker is precisely placed and tuned to match the interior acoustics of the car.

Following the success of 2015’s Volvo XC90 collaboration, Bowers & Wilkins has now worked with Volvo Cars to create a second fantastic sound system for the all-new Volvo S90 sedan. The Bowers & Wilkins Audio System is uniquely tuned to the S90’s interior audio signature, and features a number of core Bowers & Wilkins technologies.

Among these is the innovative Tweeter-on-Top design. In the Volvo S90, the dashboard-mounted centre tweeter ensures absolute voice clarity by physically separating the tweeter from the confines of the dashboard delivers clearer, purer treble, particularly vital for vocals.

Of course, sound is about far more than just the high notes. The speakers include Bowers & Wilkins signature yellow Kevlar® 100mm midrange drivers, visible but protected by a grille designed for optimum acoustic openness.

The innovative S90 also features a luxurious interior, and the Bowers & Wilkins Audio System fits in perfectly, with finely etched grilles and discreet – but acoustically advantageous – speaker placement.
